5/5/2020 4 Comments my quarantine morning routineAurora: the dawn of a new day, of endless possibilities in the hours stretched before you after the sunrise has faded its watercolor into a bright sky. When the aurora of a new day begins, your morning routine can be essential to starting off on a more positive, productive note. Below, I share my *quarantine* morning routine, which is altered slightly from my usual since many of us have more time to spend on ourselves. I hope that you can find some steps to apply to your own morning, or that this post merely inspires you to begin your day right! 1. Get Up + Stretch Putting your body in motion first thing helps me a lot with reducing muscle tension and any soreness I have. Stretching right out of bed can set the tone for a more active day while helping slowly wake up your mind and your body so that you aren't just going through the motions but are fully present and awake to what you are doing. If you don't know where to start, I love following yoga morning flow routines on YouTube, especially Tatiana Ringsby or Yoga with Adrienne. 2. Grab A Glass of Water Obviously you couldn't be drinking water and hydrating your body while you were asleep, so it's vital to drink a big glass of water in the morning to re-hydrate your body from the night before, Plus, water can aid in waking up your brain and boosting your metabolism. I try to drink 16-ounces (or one water bottle) at breakfast. Go drink some water right now! 3. Read or Meditate for a Grateful Heart + Mind This step is something I never make time for during the school year, but if you're out of school or have extra time on the weekend, reading or meditating is a great way to activate your brain in the morning. Reading a morning gratitude book can assist in building a grateful foundation for the rest of your day, while meditating or manifesting in the morning when you are just coming out of your subconscious state can allow you to maintain a calm state of bliss for a longer period of time before stressed thoughts can begin.
6. Make Your Bed
Countless CEO's and successful business people have stuck by making your bed in the morning to start your day on a productive note. If you can, make your bed right when you get up so you aren't tempted to get right back in it. Try to turn off your sleepy senses and nap tendencies by making your bed and doing at least one productive thing in the a.m. 7. Get Dressed If we weren't in quarantine, this step would be obvious, but considering the circumstances, it can be really easy to stay in your pajamas all day. Putting on actual clothes can help you feel more presentable and ready to take on the day. Of course there are times when we all just want to chill, but if you feel like you're in a slump, then getting properly dressed could be a morning step in the right direction. Here's a few extra things that I like to do in my morning routine when I really have a lot of time... * Go on a bike ride or walk for some additional active flow. * Eat breakfast outside to enjoy nature and just simply be. * Go beyond just making your bed and clean up your space from the day/night before because a clean space equals a clean mind. * Put on a face mask or spend some extra self-care time on yourself and your skin. * Make a to-do list or a schedule for yourself so you have guidance for what to do in your day and have less of a chance of becoming overwhelmed. It's obviously natural to have days where we all just want to chill in pj's and not be productive. And that is completely fine! It's important to not feel guilty if you're not being productive or know what to do 24/7. But in the case that you want to establish more of a routine, I hope this article can help! :)
