YAY the second article of the summer series! I hope to post a ton more now that I have a lot more free time since it is summer. I have already been brainstorming new blog post ideas in my bullet journal! For this first one, I am bringing back my old "Mellifluous" article for a "Mellifluous Part Two." Keep reading for my updated music playlist for June & July!
1. Give Yourself A Try -- The 1975
If you know me you know that The 1975 are my all time favorite musicians, favorite band, and favorite artists. After about a two year hiatus since their last full album was released, the dry spell was finally broken with the release of this song for their upcoming album, "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships." With an upbeat tempo that makes you want to dance around your room and blast the music as loud as you can, this song is paired with surprisingly deep lyrics that cover topics like mental health, suicide, and finding who you really are. The title of the song is something that I also find perfectly relevant to summer as it discusses going outside and experiencing life as it is in order to find who you are as a person and to find happiness, which the time off during summer gives us a lot more free time to do. I have long admired and aspired to reach the level of The 1975's songwriting and lyrical abilities, and they will always be people I look up to for their beautiful sound and messages. Although this description is a tad longer than I normally do for songs, I figured I might as well go into a little more detail considering the band's importance to me. And I cannot wait for the album release!
2. Everybody Loves You -- Charlotte Lawrence
Slower and more melodic, this song is another one that conveys a deeper message. My favorite part of the song is the second chorus when Lawrence reaches beautiful high notes that genuinely gave me chills the first time I heard them. Plus, if you look on her Instagram for the snippet of the song before it was released, the live performance is just as beautiful, if not even more, than the recorded version.
3. Space Cowboy -- Kacey Musgraves
Even though I do love country, I appreciate this song because I feel like it is not too obviously the stereotypical country. Also a slower song, I love how the lyrics and the way Musgraves sings them give off an almost dreamy, air-like quality, like clouds slowly floating across the sky.
4. Loving Is Easy -- Rex Orange County
A favorite among many I know, Rex Orange County appears to have quickly captured the hearts of many. With a happy, fresh sound, this song is one of many that simply embodies good vibes and happy times. If this song and this band were a flower, it would definitely be a sunflower, and that is the best way I can describe "Loving Is Easy" and Rex Orange County.

5. Summer Depression -- Girl In Red
I found this song on SoundCloud the other day and I immediately fell in love with its beat. It was just what I was looking for at the time, a sort of happy-go-lucky sound that comes off as a little indie and makes you want to drive slow with your windows down and hair in the breeze. However, I was immediately struck by the dark lyrics that literally, hence the song title, discuss depression and teen suicide. In an odd sort of way, it made me love the song even more because it was so unique and something that not many songs so boldly and directly address.
6. Blue -- Gracie Abrams
Also on SoundCloud, this song just happens to be my favorite out of what Abrams has released thus far in her career. Her raw vocals and acoustics are stunningly gorgeous yet real, while her ability to reach high notes sounds beautiful as well. I cannot wait to see what she releases in the future, but until then, Abrams herself is someone I love to follow. From her Instagram aesthetic to the unedited videos she posts of snippets of songs that she writes, I have to say that pretty much everything I have heard from her so far is something that I love. I highly would recommend checking her out, and if you are like me, you will find yourself re-watching her Instagram song clips quite a few times, perhaps in shock of how someone's voice could be so incredible before it even graces a recording booth.
7. Girls -- The 1975 (acoustic @ Bing Lounge)
Already one of my favorites of The 1975, "Girls" is one of my all-time feel-good songs that makes me want to shout the lyrics at the top of my lungs and dance dance dance. 1000/10 recommend the original, but if you are looking for something that sounds to me like literal song perfection, then this song is for you (hahaha)! But seriously, you just have to listen to this song. Like I have no words to describe it.
8. All Girls Are The Same -- Juice Wrld
I try to not include a lot of rap songs on here because I feel like it does not really fit the vibe of my blog and I want to write about songs that are not too well known yet. However, this song is on this month's playlist so why not include it. I love the overall beat and Juice Wrld's voice which stands out to me among other rappers. Also, the lyrics are not just about what a lot of stereotypical rap songs are about (you know what I am referring to), instead discussing how his cycle of heartbreak can lead him to think that all girls are the same.

9. Made In Hollywood -- LANY
LANY is another band of which I love pretty much every song of theirs. However, this is one of my favorites out of all of them. I love the lyrics and I remember the first time I heard it I listened to it on repeat for a literal hour while I cleaned my room (hahaha). If that does not show you my dedication to this song.
10. If You Called -- Aves
On SoundCloud, Aves' voice and acoustics in this song kind of gave me some country vibes, and to be honest, at first I did not particularly like it. Nevertheless, I found myself listening to this song again and it grew on me after awhile because of its steady rhythm and soothing guitar that I find quite relaxing.
11. Teenage Fantasy -- Jorja Smith
I actually started listening to Smith's music after watching her nighttime skincare routine on Vogue's YouTube channel. Her music has a very smooth, soulful feel to it with a little bit of rnb thrown in, too. If you like the sound of artists like Willow Smith, then you will love Jorja.
12. Switch -- 6lack
Although The 1975 tops out at number one, 6lack is definitely up there on my list of favorite artists, top 5 at the least. Thus, I pretty much love every single one of his songs released. Enough said (but I will say that this song sounds a little more pop than his previous rnb/rap releases).
13. Hotline Bling -- Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish = queen. Another one of my top five fave artists because of her absolutely angelic voice that cannot go wrong. I love how she slowed down Hotline Bling in this cover to make it more her own and to showcase her gorgeous voice.
So there ya have it! My June & July playlist! Obviously I will be adding more to it as the summer goes on, but those are my top songs that are on repeat as of now. If you want to see these songs and more, feel free to check them out on my spotify, @aderickson20! Thanks for reading :)
