By now I'm sure you were expecting a poem before the article, and sure enough, here's not just one, but TWO! ;)
xx
she was autumn.
her skin glistened from within
as pure and glowing as the sunlight that softly glimmered through the treetops
with eyes as murky as the deep brown coffee that warmed both your hands and your heart.
her hair tumbled as carelessly down her back as the leaves that have pirouetted through the air
her breath flurried as crisply as the smoke from the candle you just blew out.
and what about
when you got close enough to see her soul?
well her soul was a million autumns all at once.
xx
FALLING
i want to fall in love with the nature around us.
i want flowers and meadows to bloom from my lungs
and sunsets and sunrises to ripple through my eyes.
i want cascading waterfalls and tumbling waves to greet my ears
and my hair to feel the fir of forest trees dancing in a gentle breeze.
i want nature to kiss me
with the intensity of the dazzling stars and sun
so that for one moment
i may be overcome with the brilliant radiance of it all.
xx

This post begins a new series and a fresh start of articles that I will be doing on this blog. After being asked to do a final project responding to something that I think life is asking of me, I chose to respond to the concept of self-acceptance, self-love, and body positivity. Through this article, I aim to cultivate or inspire self-love, self-acceptance, self-growth, body positivity, and overall radiance and positivity. Here is Chapter One!
CHAPTER ONE :
Nature and the world : a wide expanse, an endless horizon of possibility and places to explore. But do we really take the time to appreciate the splendid beauty of it all? To fully immerse ourselves in its quiet, breathtaking existence? Value the little moments of the world : a watercolor sunrise or sunset, an endless expanse of twinkling stars, the glow of an impossibly distant moon, the gentle rippling of leaves in a breeze. Just look up (or if you are inside look out a window :) Stop for just a moment to take it all in. Even close your eyes to just experience the harmony of sounds nature provides. Slow down and take it all in. 99% of the time you will feel better after, too. After all, when everyone seems to be rushing from one thing to another these days, focusing on something as soothing as nature, while taking a brief few seconds to center yourself, steady your breathing, and just take in the world around you, can help to ease an otherwise stressful day.
How does this translate to self-love, though (besides creating a sense of peacefulness, calmness, and sense of gratitude within oneself)? One of my favorite quotes, shown below is, "How cool is it that the same God that created mountains & oceans & galaxies looked at you & thought the world needed one of you, too." Once we start appreciating and understanding how incredible and infinite the world around us is, then we can start appreciating ourselves, too. No matter who or how you think the world was created, this concept of appreciating nature as equals to ourselves can be applied to everyone. So . . .
APPRECIATE
&
LOVE YOURSELF!
**you are just as necessary and beautiful as the world around us**
